Sega Naomi keeping the Dream alive!

Long after the Dreamcast died in the USA the Sega Naomi it's counterpart in the Arcades is still chugging along. It was a sad day in Febuary 2001 when Peter Moore and Sega USA pulled the plug on the little console that could, But Sega Japan would not let the Dreamcast go quietly in the dark. Little Development studios mainly Treasure and G.Rev were tinkering with the follow up sequel to the highly praised and sought after Radiant Silvergun. The game known only as Project RS-2 was destined to reach arcades in the December of 2001 and when it showed at the AM show a few months prior "IKARUGA" was highly touted as the savior of Shmups in Arcades. Many rumors started circulating that perhaps a Dreamcast release was possible due to its ease of porting from its Naomi Counterpart. In June of 2002 NCSX confirmed what many suspected that Ikaruga would indeed receive a console port on Sept 5th 2002.

The game was a hit with the critics and the fans and started a revolution of Arcade shmups being developed for the Naomi and susequently to the Dreamcast with official releases dating up to 2007. A remarkable run for a console people had deemed dead in 2001. Currently the Sega Naomi is seeing releases in the Arcade this year with Asian Dynamite Deka (Dynamite Cop),Akatsuki Denkou Senki , Illvelo, Mamonoro and Melty Blood Actress Again. The current AM show did not feature any Naomi games unfotunately and it seems that the Naomi will end its run this year as one of the longest tenured and highly successful arcade boards the market will ever see. The official first release in Arcades was House of The Dead 2 in 1998 and last releases will be Mamonoro and Melty Blood Actress Again which were released today. Even 10 years later House of the Dead 2 is a top earner in most Arcades.

Capcom announces Resident Evil Wiimake of Gamecube Remake!

Capcom formally announced in famitsu that Resident Evil / Biohazard would be getting a Wii port. I would expect the graphics to be simliar but include the Wii mote enhancements we have learned to love such as waggling and aiming. Game is planned for a December 25th release in Japan. Chances of coming stateside are slim at best since Capcom USA rejected Resident Evil 0 port although that did not include any Wii specific enhancements.
